PS 41 has so many strengths, including great teachers and a supportive, warm community. We are also lucky to have one of the best chess programs in the city. Our kids learn chess in the classroom, have the opportunity to develop chess skills after school, and can even participate in a top-ranked chess team at tournaments both at PS41, in the city and around the country. (Click HERE to see our team’s latest achievements.)
A growing body of research shows the developmental benefits of chess for children. The game improves problem-solving skills and helps kids better appreciate competition and teamwork.
PS 41 families get it—chess can enhance their children’s education and strengthen the school community. Not surprisingly, our school’s chess team has grown to more than 30 children today, up from 7 in 2009.
PS 41 wholeheartedly supports school chess activities, and the school PTA generously funds the in-school curriculum chess program. However, the school’s chess team is primarily parent funded. Proceeds from home tournaments and school fundraising events only cover part of the team expenses.

That’s why we’ve created the PS 41 Chess Club, Inc., a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization to help facilitate chess team fundraising. Your tax-deductible donations will go towards:
-More coaches at major scholastic tournaments to help children get the most out of their games.
-Team expenses such as coaches’ salaries, travel and lodging; team rooms and team t-shirts.
-Scholarships for deserving players with financial need.
Our mission is simple: we want to promote the study and knowledge of chess among PS 41 students to enhance their academic and social development.

Most importantly, thank you for all your support—we are not just nurturing future chess champions but helping equip our children to succeed in life.
