Tournament Info & Registration

Scholastic tournaments are a great way to practice and develop chess skills. For the 2017-18 school year, PS 41 will host tournaments on the following dates:

MONDAY (Columbus Day) – OCTOBER 9, 2017

SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 19, 2017

SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 4, 2018

Early bird on-line registration deadline: Wed. April 25, 2018 at 8pm
On-line registration deadline: Fri. April 27, 2018 at 8pm
Chess Trophy Recycling will be available at this tournament.

HOW TO REGISTER Please read the information below carefully. Use the online form at the bottom of this page to register. Register early to avoid disappointment. Registration will close when advance entries reach our capacity of 150 players. On-site walk-in registration is available only if we do not reach capacity.

Early Bird Rate: $40
On-line early bird registration will close at 8pm four days before the tournament.

Regular Rate: $50
On-line registration will close at 8pm two days before the tournament.

On-site Rate: $60 (payable by check or cash only to PS 41 Chess Club, Inc.) If we have not reached capacity (150 players), on-site registration will close at

9:15am for Open and Championship Sections
9:30am for Reserve Section
9:45am for Primary Section
10:15am for Unrated Sections (No Score, Novice K-1, and Novice 2-5)

CANCELLATION POLICY

A refund will be issued for cancellations made no later than seven days prior to the tournament date. A credit to a future tournament (within the same school year) will be issued for a cancellation made up to 3pm the day before a tournament. No refund or credit for a cancellation made after 3pm the day before a tournament. No refund or credit for no shows. Credits that are unused by the last tournament of the school year will be donated to PS 41 Chess Club, Inc.

PARENTAL SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED THROUGHOUT THE TOURNAMENT
PROTECT OUR KIDS AND DO NOT BRING NUT PRODUCTS
NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE AUDITORIUM

Tournament Details
* Special instructions for our Unrated Sections will be presented at 10:15am in the auditorium.
* Pairing will be posted in the Playing Hall (cafeteria)
* Parents may help their children get settled in the playing hall at the start of their rounds.
* Second and following rounds will begin when the previous round is completed.
* Award ceremonies will take place at the completion of each section.

Arts & Crafts activity tables will be located in the auditorium from 11am-1:30pm.

Chess Trophy Recycling will be available on select dates (dates to be announced).

Team Skitting Tables Team skittling tables are available and can be reserved on a first-come, first served basis. Contact Tournament Director Jeremy Scheinbach (ps41chess@gmail.com) for details.

Support the PS 41 Chess Team Delicious breakfast and tasty lunch items will be sold throughout the day at the tournament. Proceeds will directly benefit the PS 41 Chess Team.

UNRATED SECTIONS
Board and pieces will be supplied, and no clocks will be used. U.S. Chess Federation membership is not required for these sections. Please arrive 15 minutes before your start time. Special instructions for our Unrated Sections will be presented at 10:15am in the auditorium.

No Score (Pre-K and Kindergarten) 4 rounds.
Start / Est. End Time: 10:30am / 2:30pm. This section is specially designed for Pre-K and K children new to chess tournaments and might not remember all the rules. Tournament Directors will guide the children and results will not be recorded. Trophies awarded to all players.

Novice K-1 (Kindergartners and First Grade) 4 rounds.
Start / Est. End Time: 10:30am / 2:30pm. Trophies awarded to winners and ribbons to all players.

Novice 2-5 (2nd to 5th Grade) 4 rounds.
Start / Est. End Time: 10:30am / 2:30pm. Trophies awarded to winners and ribbons to all players.

USCF RATED SECTIONS
Players in these sections must play with a clock. Board and pieces will be supplied but bring tournament sets and clocks if you have them. U.S. Chess Federation membership is required for rated sections. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your start time.

Primary (K-3rd Grade, USCF Under 800) 4 rounds, G/40d5.
Start / Est. End Time: 10am / 3:30pm. Trophies awarded to winners.

Reserve (K-8th Grade, USCF Under 1100) 4 rounds, G/40d5.
Start / Est. End Time: 9:45am / 4pm. Trophies awarded to winners.

Championship (K-12th Grade, USCF 1000+) 3 rounds, G/70d5.
Start / Est. End Time: 9:30am / 4:30pm. Trophies awarded to winners.

Open (K-12th Grade, USCF 1400+) 3 rounds, G/70d5.
Start / Est. End Time: 9:30am / 4:30pm.  Trophies awarded to winners.
